India briefs G20 envoys on Pahalgam terror attack, seeks global isolation of Pakistan

In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam that killed 26 people, India has launched a full-scale diplomatic offensive, briefing envoys of select G20 countries to rally global support and isolate Pakistan. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) hosted ambassadors from key nations including China, Canada, Germany, Japan, the UK, and Russia to provide a detailed account of the attack and its perpetrators.

The attack, claimed by an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has triggered international outrage. Indian officials underscored the evidence linking the attack to elements across the border and called for a united front against terrorism. The meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, was part of India's broader strategy to gain diplomatic traction and expose Pakistan’s alleged role in cross-border terrorism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking from Bihar’s Madhubani, issued a sharp warning: “India will find, track, and punish every terrorist... The attackers and their backers will face consequences beyond their imagination.” His speech, delivered partly in English, was aimed at ensuring global clarity on India’s position.

Following Modi's address, condemnation poured in from across the world. Global leaders, including the US, UK, France, Russia, Israel, UAE, and Japan, issued strong statements of support. Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu expressed solidarity with India.

US President Donald Trump personally reached out to PM Modi and tweeted, “The United States stands strong with India against terrorism.” Vice President JD Vance, who was visiting India at the time, also extended heartfelt condolences.

India has already taken concrete steps in response to the attack. The Attari border has been closed, the Indus Waters Treaty suspended, and all Pakistani diplomats have been declared persona non grata. Visas of Pakistani nationals have been revoked and the strength of both High Commissions reduced significantly.

These decisions were finalized after a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by PM Modi. Indian officials emphasized that the diplomatic pressure will continue unless Pakistan decisively ends its support for terrorism.
